RIBA STAGE 2 - Concept Design (developing design ideas)
How we will achieve all your requirements…WEEKS 11 - 15
We'll develop our initial conceptual designs, then choose the most promising ones to show you. To help you envision how your new building, extension, or remodelling project could take shape, we'll create detailed plans, elevations, sections, and 3D models. We'll also provide material samples and reference images to bring our ideas to life. For an even more immersive experience, we will take you on a virtual walkthrough of our proposals.
We use Passive House software (PHPP and designPH) at RIBA Stage 2 to thoroughly test our developing design in a real-world 3D environment, to ensure that our design will meet your sustainability criteria, and to achieve the full Passive House standard if required. By incorporating this software into our design process, we can identify opportunities to optimise the design to create the most energy efficient building for your particular site. We use these specialist, tried and tested tools during the design stage to help guide the decisions we make to ensure the final building will perform as expected.
We'll also refine the design based on your input and any planning feedback received in the previous stage.
Our team will guide you in selecting any specialist consultants that are required. We'll also manage communication among all design team members, serving as the primary contact for the project.
We'll explore and review the various construction methods (including potential contractors) and incorporate these considerations into our design process. Our emerging designs will integrate practical aspects like structural elements and utility services. Additionally, we'll factor in the deadlines for any necessary reports and surveys required for planning.
After we finish this design stage (RIBA Stage 2), we'll issue a set of scaled design drawings together with the 3D model you can easily view on your computer / tablet / phone and ask for your written feedback. We'll then incorporate your feedback into the start of the next stage of the project.
The key aims are:
We'll share the scaled design drawings with you for your feedback.
We'll provide guidance on the appointment of any specialist consultants and surveys you may need.
We will engage with any specialist contractors early to incorporate any key technical building design requirements.
We want you to carefully review the plans and send us your written comments.
We may submit a more detailed planning pre-application drawing pack to receive formal feedback if required.
We'll use your feedback, and any formal planning advice, as we move to the next stage of the project.
